Jermaine O’Neal is in the news today, and the mere mention of his name turns my spine to jelly. The Pacers have apparently had enough and have shipped the Human Knee Strain to Toronto for T.J. Ford and a draft pick.
O’Neal, who I drafted in both my leagues last season, now teams with Andrea Bargnani to form a Wonder Twin-like tandem of anti-heroes. It remains to be seen if O’Neal can co-exist with Chris Bosh in the 35 games they’ll play together, but one thing is for sure: Jose Calderon is now America’s Most Wanted. How good is Calderon going to be without Ford? When Ford went out with a neck injury last year, Calderon had a 23-game stretch where he averaged 14.6 points and 9.9 assists while shooting nearly 53 percent from the field.
The Jamaal Tinsley era appears to be drawing to a close in Indiana as well. The Pacers still won’t be very good with Ford at the point but at least they were used to playing without O’Neal. From a fantasy perspective, this is Danny Granger’s world and we’re all just living in it. Unfortunately, it appears Troy Murphy should be good, meaning he won’t because he’s only good when least expected(i.e., right after I drop him).
As for my boy Jermaine, someone else can grab him next year. At this point I’d rather draft Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords.
